SAN ANTONIO
- Back when your Field Correspondent
was 10 -- just after the dawn of time -- the neighborhood high
school, dear old John H. Reagan, advanced to the state football
championship game. The beloved Raiders traveled about a million
miles out to West Texas to take on a team with the unlikely colors
of black and white from a place we had only heard
less-than-flattering reports about from dear old Dad, who liked
everywhere.
In other words, we played Mojo
before there was a Mojo. Back then, it was just plain ol' Odessa
Permian. My, how things have changed. Permian continues to put
the Mojo on everybody, while my dear alma mater is a Class 4A that
can't get out of the weakest district in the state. And if
kicking everybody around the state isn't enough, Permian also has a
championship Web site.
MojoLand is better than some
college and pro sites. The Permian page also has audio clips
and playoff game photos -- although there were none from that
crushing loss to Reagan. It also has a page devoted to the
cheerleaders and the booster club and a chat room (no trash talking,
though -- don't mess with those people in Odessa, even
electronically).
Every varsity player has a page,
and there's background on the football program, including records
and a history of the school. There are even maps, detailing how to
get to the school and its stadium.
And a hearty Garland: Although not
as technically fancy as MojoLand, the Garland High School page is
filled with information, like year-by-year results and coaching
records.
You won't find Mojo's impressive
collection of hardware, but you will have a little fun. And there's
also links to some other high school pages, including Abilene
Cooper, Columbus and Schulenburg. |
