TX -- The ECISD school board
voted to replace the artificial turf at Ratliff Stadium, a project
with a $1 million budget. The vote was 4-1-1, with Delma Abalos
being the lone dissenting vote and Carol Gregg as the lone abstention.
David Finley, the Ector County ISD executive director for facilities
and maintenance, said the project includes the first step toward
bringing Ratliff Stadium into compliance with the Americans with
Disabilities Act. After getting the board’s approval to move
ahead with the project, Finley said he will begin the bidding process
today.ECISD Superintendent Dr.
Roy Benavides tried to calm those who were concerned about the
district spending money on a stadium while amidst a budget crunch that
is affecting teachers. Benavides said that safety was a big
concern, as was lost revenue from the loss of playoff games.
Benavides said that ECISD soccer games also will be played at Ratliff
Stadium, but that the ECISD Soccer Complex still will be utilized for
tournaments. |
