LEE MISCUES DIG TRENCH IN LOSS TO PLAINSMEN
The Rebels committed eight miscues in their final game of the season.  Seven were intercepted passes and another was a fumble in the 49-24 loss to Lubbock Monterey.  The Plainsmen converted four turnovers into four touchdowns.

Lee's turnover troubles started early as the Rebels were threatening to tie the game late in the first quarter as Monterey held a 7-0 advantage. Jason Nash threw his first pick of the game, this one was to Cody Hill on Lee's second offensive possession. Lee managed a field goal on its third possession and stopped Monterey for the only time in the half with a little over five minutes remaining. The Rebels drove from their own 40-yard line to the Plainsmen 15 before Nash threw the interception to Sherif that turned into a 21-3 Monterey lead.

Lee cut into that lead in the third quarter when Zach Pitts returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown, and the Rebels stopped the Plainsmen on fourth down on the ensuing possession. Brett Longley scored on a 1-yard run with 3:11 remaining in the quarter but the Rebels still managed to stay in the game after that touchdown. Lee ended a nine-play, 74-yard scoring drive on its next possession with a 35-yard TD pass from Nash to Corey Petro on fourth down as Lee narrowed the lead to 28-17.  After that the Rebels had three consecutive possessions end in interceptions, with two turning into Monterey touchdowns. Justin Hernandez hit Josh Davis on a 28-yard TD pass with 11:40 remaining in the fourth quarter and less than a minute later Shamodrick Atkins returned a pick 15 yards for a TD for a 42-17 lead. Monterey's final TD was a 37-yard run by Hernandez, as he eclipsed the century mark with 118 yards on 15 carries.

OFF-KEY PANTHERS STILL ELIMINATE BOBCATS
Jarvas Morris scored a pair of touchdowns as an off-key Permian performance outlasted San Angelo Central 28-17.  The Bobcats actually out gained the Panthers in total yards 314-227 and held a 19-12 advantage in first downs. But Permian scored on three of its first four possessions and got an interception return for a touchdown.

Art Arteaga kicked a 24-yard field goal on the opening drive to give the Bobcats their only lead in the game.  The Panthers answered with 21 points, before Central's Chas Freeman scored at the end of the half, sending Mojo into the locker room with a 21-10 lead.  Freeman, who rushed for 221 yards in the Bobcats’ bi-district win over El Paso Montwood, was held to 58 yards on 17 carries and fumbled twice.  Permian in return was held to a season-low 31 yards rushing, due in part to a pair of bad snaps that lost 34 yards.

Permian came out in the second half and added to its lead, when Tate Smith connected with Melvis Pride on a 27 yard TD pass.  Smith broke the Permian school record for passing yards in a season with a 24-yard completion to Bront Bird in the fourth quarter.  Smith now has 2,140 yards in 12 games, surpassing the 2,124 yards Leland Morris had in 13 games in 1998.  Central quarterback Blake McCarthy rushed for 242 yards and a touchdown, but also threw three interceptions.

SANDIES SEND DAWGS HOME EARLY
Midland High never led and suffered from as many self-inflicted wounds as those Amarillo administered in the 31-12 defeat in Tech's Red Raider stadium.  The Sandies looked on the verge of blowing out the Bulldogs early in the second quarter as Amarillo drove for a pair of touchdowns on two of its first three possessions.  Amarillo took the opening kickoff and went 77 yards on nine plays as Jacob Reinbold ran for a 21-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead.  Later in the quarter, the Sandies scored again on a 3-yard pass from Kyler Hill to Nick Talley which made it 14-0.  The Bulldogs put together a nine-play, 97-yard scoring drive in the second quarter.  Brandon Batch ran over from 8 yards out to cut the lead to 14-6 at the half.

Midland High got the second half kickoff, but five plays later Burns threw the first of his two interceptions to Jonathan Wise, and the Sandies set up shop at their own 42. Seven plays later, Reinbold scored the second of his three touchdowns on a 1-yard run to make it 21-6.  The Bulldogs answered back five plays later, when Burns hit Joe Roberson over the middle for a 32-yard scoring pass which cut it to 21-12.  The next two possessions the Bulldogs sealed their fate. Batch lost the ball as he was trying to spin loose, and Amarillo's Brandon Gonzalez recovered at the Midland High 30.  The Sandies settled with a 44-yard field goal by Brett Owens which made it 24-12 by the end of the third quarter.  On Amarillo High's next possession, Reinbold plowed over for his final touchdown from 15 yards out to end Midland High's season.
