EULESS TRINITY AT ODESSA PERMIAN
SUMMARY & STATS     INTERVIEWS      GAME PHOTOS      HIGHLIGHTS

Permian had plans to have E.T. do more than phone home.  The Panthers intended to have them packing a lunch and then sending them back to the Metroplex with a loss.  Mojo did just that Saturday night in the national televised game on Fox Sports.  The Mojo defense raked havoc on the Trojans - forcing five turnovers in the 30-3 slashing in Ratliff Stadium.  The Panther offense took advantage of four of the turnovers by putting 24 points on the scoreboard.

After trading field goals, the Panthers set their sights on methodically keeping the Trojans out of the end zone while cushioning the Permian lead.  Jamison Berryhill put Permian up 10-3 on a 6-yard run in the second quarter, and Mojo took a touchdown lead into the locker room.

The second half would be a display of Permian dominance and a continuation of Trojan miscues.  Taylor Byrd started it off with a 28-yard strike to Melvis Pride and Berryhill added more on a 4-yard touchdown run (his second of the night).  Trinity trailed by a hefty 24-3 as the fourth quarter began.  By the 10-minute mark, the Panthers owned the Trojans and a 30-3 lead when Byrd launched a 30-yard TD pass to Brian Nunez.

On a personal note, it was this same time last year when the MojoLand site got hacked before the Mojo-Haka game.  I find it fitting that the Trojans couldn't Hack It - the site or on the field - this time around.

ABILENE HIGH AT MESQUITE
Abilene surprised Mesquite on the third play from scrimmage. Spens Lackey connected with Kortney McDow on a screen pass and McDow scampered 83-yard to paydirt. It would be one of two scores for the Eagles as they claimed a 13-10 victory over the Skeeters.

AHS used its best drive of the game in the second quarter to score again.  The Eagles controlled the ball for 6:05 and used 15 plays to go 79 yards. Abilene quarterback Stephen Warren was 7-of-8 for 67 yards during the drive. His 27-yard pass to Tevin Wiley on a third-and-24 gave the Eagles a first-and-goal from the 1. Chris Williams capped off the drive on a 1-yard plunge into the endzone.

The Skeeters got back in the game on a Bradlee Baladez 30-yard field goal to narrow the gap just before the half ended.  Mesquite's Kelly Page hooked up with Derrick Barnes on a 46-yard scoring play in the fourth quarter, but the AHS defense held on and escaped with the victory.

TEMPLE AT ABILENE COOPER
Cooper jumped out to grab and early lead in the first half, and had to hang on again in the second half as CHS defeated Temple 21-19.  Will Casey opened up the game early for Cooper as he hit sophomore Tommy Bowman for a 56-yard TD score.

The Cougars took momentum and turned it into another seven points when Casey found Andrew Squyres  on  a 23-yard touchdown pass.  Temple cut its deficit with a 10-yard touchdown run with 2:39 left in the third but decided to go for a two-point run, which Cooper denied just inches shy of the end zone.

With the Cougars clinging to a two-point lead, punter Timmy Dixon pinned the Wildcats on their own 20 and the defense forced quarterback Chase Moore to throw two incomplete passes. Moore gained two yards on third down.  On a fourth-and-8, he tried to connect but overthrew his receiver.  The Cougars took over and ran out the clock.

LUBBOCK MONTEREY AT MIDLAND LEE
As if a preview of things to come, the Rebels opened the game fumbling the kickoff and Lubbock Monterey converted it into a touchdown. Lee trailed 28-7 at the half and Sidney Drake was named as Homecoming Queen in the intermission.

In the second half, the Rebels would rally back to narrow the margin to seven, 28-21.  The fourth quarter comeback was cut short when the Plainsmen nailed a 40-yard field goal to stretch the lead to 31-21.  Lee had one last chance to score, but failed a 4th-and-4 on the Monterey 30 yard line.

SAN ANGELO CENTRAL AT MIDLAND HIGH
Despite the strong defensive effort, the Bulldogs fell short against Central, 13-10.  Anthony Castillo hit Michael Connors for a touchdown to give the Bobcats a 7-3 lead early.  Chase Plourd replaced Blake Stewart at quarterback and the Bulldogs were in the end zone on a 5-yard scoring pass from Plourd to Addison Kenney to cut it to 13-10 with 42 seconds remaining in the game. The Bulldogs looked as if they could pull off a comeback when Josh Roberson recovered an onside kick at the Central 48. On the next play, Plourd hit Kenney for a 23-yard gain, but when Kenney was pushed out of bounds, the game was over.

ODESSA HIGH AT AMARILLO TASCOSA
The Bronchos had a chance to comeback on the Rebels, but the effort fell short in a 25-18 loss.  Tascosa got on the board in the first half on a 41-yard field goal by Jason Cunningham.  The Rebels opened it up in the third quarter with a 25-yard interception return, and then on a 40-yard TD pass from Joe Ledoux to Dalton Brooks.  Odessa High responded with two touchdown passes from David Camancho to Javorian Guyton and Miles Torres.  The Bronchos tied the game 18-18 on Travis Austin’s 36-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.  That wouldn't hold as Ledoux led the Rebels down the field and into the endzone from eight yards out to win the game.
