ODESSA HIGH AT ODESSA PERMIAN
STATS & VIDEO   GAME PHOTOS
The Panthers used three scores within a 6-minute span in the second quarter to blow open a 49-13 victory over Ye Olde Red-Clad Rivals from the Westside of Odessa.

The annual cross-town rivalry game witnessed Permian jumping out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter, with two of the scores from quarterback Taylor Byrd. Mojo added another 21 points in the second period.  Joseph Knighten ended the scoring with a 29-yard pass from Taylor Byrd to make the score 42-7 at the half.

The Panthers finished with 515 total yards (222 rushing & 293 passing) for the third time this season they have gone over the 500-yard mark.  Byrd went 22-of-31 passing for 284 yards, with rushing touchdowns of 14, 3 and 15 yards.  He connected on TD passes of 10 yards to Melvis Pride and 29 yards to Joseph Knighten.  Pride also scored on a 9-yard run in the first quarter, while tight end Shai Biggerstaff pulled in a 4-yard TD pass in the third quarter.

Permian improves to 9-0 for the season, which is the best record the Black Cats have posted since 1991.  In that year, Permian claimed their sixth state title.  The victory guarantees Mojo of at least a share of the district title, and an outright ownership can come next week with a win over Midland High.

MIDLAND HIGH AT MIDLAND LEE
Things couldn't have started any better for the Bulldogs, who struck on the first play of scrimmage as Darius Miller took a handoff and ran a sweep around the right side for a 90-yard TD and a 7-0 MHS lead. It wouldn't prove to be enough in the 35-26 Lee victory.

Early in the second quarter, the Bulldogs scored with their defense, as linebacker Tanner Foster intercepted Jason Nash with nobody else around and rumbled 53 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead.  The Rebels got on the scoreboard by tearing off 79 yards on four plays, capped by Austin Jumper's 10-yard run to cut it to 14-7.  Jumper was back in the endzone on the next possession, going in from six yards out to make it 14-14 with 27 seconds remaining in the half.

Miller, who had a game-high 167 yards on 20 carries, went in from 2 yards out in the third quarter to take a 20-14 lead.  The Rebels answered back when Josey Childs scored on the first of two 1-yard runs which gave Lee a 21-20 lead. On the next possession, Chase Plourd threw his second interception of the game.  Amieul Carr and the Rebels wasted no time taking the lead back on a 40-yard touchdown to make it 28-20, and the Rebels finally had a cushion.

ABILENE COOPER AT ABILENE HIGH
Keithy
Flye rushed for 229 yards and two touchdowns as Abilene High bounced back from last week's loss to Permian with a 34-10 win over crosstown rival Cooper.

The Eagles' first two possessions resulted in nine-play, 74-yard drives. Flye scored the first touchdown on a 6-yard run.  After the Cougars used 14 plays to go 71 yards, Isaac Escobedo booted a 26-yard field goal. And then AHS put its second 74-yard drive together with quarterback Spens Lackey covering the final 3 yards.  Lackey connected Kortney McDow on a 37-yard touchdown play to put the Eagles ahead 21-3.

Will Casey took Cooper 80 yards, and Timmy Dixon made a TD catch in the end zone with 55 seconds left in the half.  Abilene answered with a Brandon Hill 24-yard field goal to give AHS a 24-10 halftime lead.

Flye continued his success in the third quarter, ripping off runs of 18 and 47 yards in a 95-yard drive that was capped by Flye's TD from the 6.  That put the game out of reach.  Abilene finishes at Shotwell against Odessa next week before heading into the playoffs.
