MIDLAND
HIGH AT ODESSA PERMIAN
STATS & VIDEO
GAME PHOTOS
The Panthers
scored on their first two possessions and that set the
tone for what was to be. Permian sent the Bulldogs
home licking their 52-16 wounds. The bigger picture
was it established these things: (a) Mojo sits
with a perfect 10-0 record... the first time since 1991.
PHS won state that year. (b) The victory
proclaimed Permian as District Champions. The last
Black Cat crowning was back in 1994. (c) The
Panthers qualify for the state playoffs - the second
year in a row under Head Coach Darren Allman.
The Panthers took the opening kickoff and
marched 66 yards in 14 plays, capped off by
Taylor Byrd's quarterback sneak. Byrd was
the offensive commander. He threw for two
touchdowns, and ran for 92 yards as well in the
first half. He finished with 165 yards
passing and a game-high 133 yards on 19 carries.
Permian maintained a balanced assault - 161
yards rushing and 165 passing. Mojo finished the
game with 527 yards of total offense.
ABILENE
COOPER AT MIDLAND LEE
Lee had Cooper's number from the opening kickoff.
The Rebels exploded for 179 yards and four touchdowns on the ground --
including two of 45 or more yards. All in the first half of the
35-28 Rebel victory. The Cooper offense still produced 495 total
yards. A'mon Pimpton had a 169-yard, three touchdown performance,
while Will Casey threw for 303 yards in the Cougar loss.
Following a 50-yard
return on the opening kickoff, Lee drove 26 yards to score. It
appeared Cooper was prepared to answer from Lee's 26-yard line, but were
unable to convert on a fourth-and-four. The Rebel offense cruised
right along on five of six first-half possessions.
The teams traded
touchdowns the rest of the half until a Lee touchdown with 11 seconds
left in the second quarter gave the Rebels a 14-point lead heading into
the break.
ODESSA
HIGH AT ABILENE HIGH
Sophomore quarterback Derrick Teegarden gave the Bronchos
plenty to look forward to in the future. He threw touchdowns to three
different receivers and scored another on a 7-yard run. And yet it
was a night that belonged to the Eagles in the 33-26 Broncho loss.
Abilene took the opening
kickoff 68 yards in seven plays with Keithy Flye scoring from the 6-yard
line with 9:44 left. The Eagles mounted a 42-yard drive capped
when Spens Lackey connected with Kortney McDow for an 11-yard scoring
pass with 1:28 left. It was enough time for Teegarden to take the
Bronchos down the field and connect with Tyler McQueen for a 10-yard
scoring pass to make it 14-7 at halftime.
After Teegarden's second
touchdown pass made it 21-14, Lackey scored on a 15-yard quarterback
draw. Zach Bass scored on a 27-yard scamper with three seconds left in
the third quarter to make it 33-14. Odessa finished with 402 total
yards of offense.
