Permian scored 23 unanswered points to end
the first half, which proved to be enough to beat Montwood 37-17. The
Rams took the opening kickoff and marched 74 yards with Josh Flores
scoring on the first of his two 1-yard scoring runs. The Rams then
marched 79 yards on 13 plays to go up 14-0.
Jamison Berryhill rumbled in from two yards
out to put Permian on the board at 14-7. That was the first of four
Permian scores which took advantage of good field position thanks to the
Mojo defense. Jamison Berryhill and Sherard Ray ran for
touchdowns, and Michael McNatt added a 24-yard field goal for the
Panthers with two seconds left in the half.
Taylor Byrd, who threw for 228 yards and two
touchdowns, also ran for a score. The two touchdown passes went to
Melvis Pride, who had five catches for 148 yards.
Montwood kicker Louie Maldonado added a
28-yard field goal in the third quarter to narrow the score to 23-17,
but the Rams never got closer. Permian had five plays of 25 yards
or more, including a 56-yard run by Esai Sotelo to set up the final TD.

The Panthers will meet with Euless Trinity for a 2:00 p.m. kick-off in
Abilene's Shotwell Stadium on Saturday, December 1. Permian
embarrassed Trinity 30-3 in a nationally televised game on September 15.

PASO CORONADO AT ABILENE HIGH
With Eagle running back Keithy Flye scoring five touchdowns,
Abilene High handed El Paso Coronado a 56-18 rout in the Class 5A Division II
playoff.
Abilene wrapped up the
game before halftime and went six for six on first-half possessions to
claim a 42-0 lead. The Eagles took four plays to go 60 yards
on their first possession with Flye scoring on a 25-yard run. It
took six plays to go the 54 yards with Flye scoring from the 5. A
touchdown pass from Stephen Warren to Matt Carroll gave the Eagles a
21-0 lead after the first quarter.
Flye capped an eight-play, 39-yard drive with a 2-yard scoring
run. A fumble recovery by Jordan Harris at the T-Bird 25 set up
Zach Bass's 14-yard run. On the Eagles' next play from scrimmage,
Flye raced 68 yards for a touchdown to make it a 42-0 Abilene High lead
at halftime.
Abilene High scored on its first two
possessions of the second half. Flye's 25-yard scamper put the Eagles
ahead 49-0. After Coronado scored on Diego Davila's 5-yard run,
Stephen Warren hooked up with Troy Tarrant on a 53-yard scoring play to
make it 56-6. The Eagles ran only 41 plays from scrimmage in the
game.
It earned Abilene High
its third game with Southlake Carroll in four years. The Dragons knocked
the Eagles out of the 2004 and '05
playoffs in the third round. The game is slated for Saturday
afternoon in Texas Stadium.
MIDLAND
LEE AT LUBBOCK CORONADO
Lee finished with 178 rushing yards, but Lubbock
Coronado racked up 218 yards on the ground in a 44-28 win over the
Rebels in the second round of the Class
5A playoffs.
Coronado quarterback Austin Zouzalik rushed for 88 yards on 20 carries and
scored a touchdown, while running back Evan Dickson added 132 and two touchdowns. Zouzalik also passed for 130 yards and
two touchdowns. Lee had to settle with trailing 17-13 at the
intermission.
The Rebels narrowed the
margin to 24-21
when Corey Petro scored on a five-yard touchdown run with 25 seconds
left in the third quarter. Coronado came back and rambled 86 yards for a touchdown, making the score 31-21.
From there, the Mustangs never let the Rebels back in the game.
