PERMIAN 16, ODESSA HIGH 14
For the 44th time since 1959, Permian and Odessa High fought to the end of a smash-mouth clash.  In the end, the Panthers walked away victors in a 16-14 game.

After Ryan Havens gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead with a 31-yard field goal on the game’s initial series, Permian’s Jeff Newby picked off Casas at the end of the first quarter. Two plays later, Permian’s Jermaine Swearington bulled in from the 3-yard line to give the Panthers a 10-0 lead.  On Odessa High’s next series, Thomas recovered a Casas fumble, leading to a 42-yard field goal from Havens eight plays later.  Permian took the 13-0 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Bronchos took the second-half kickoff and promptly drove 80 yards in eight plays, all on the ground.  Odessa High’s Gabriel Slack scored from the 17 to pull OHS to within 13-7.  In the fourth quarter, the Bronchos had two chances to drive into field goal range, but a Cedric Thomas sack with just over a minute to play caused a fumble that teammate Nate Graham recovered, allowing the Panthers to run out the clock and seal the victory.
