DISTRICT 3-5A SUMMARY - WEEK 8
RESULTS OCTOBER 25, 2002

MIDLAND HIGH 49, ODESSA PERMIAN 26
MIDLAND — Nope, it wasn't pretty, nor was it much of a game.  The Bulldogs dominated the third quarter and glided to a 49-26 win in Midland's Grande Communications Stadium.  A key play, setting the tempo of the night's unfolding, came when Bulldog free safety Herb City intercepted a deep pass over the middle, returning it 52 yards to the Permian 1.  TJ Barber would score on the next play, giving the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.  Permian answered with a 40-yard Ryan Havens field goal, cutting the lead to 7-3.  Midland would score again in the first half.  On a fourth-and-two at Permian's 5, MHS quarterback Ryan Rowland hit Zack Sledge on a quick slant to the inside.  The two teams exited to the locker rooms with the Bulldogs leading 14-3.

If there was a turning point, it came on Permian's first possession after the second half kickoff, as the Bulldogs forced a punt and City again came up with a big play to set up a score. City blocked the kick by Charles McGuire, and it rolled into the end zone where Daniel Stovall pounced on it to give the Bulldogs a 21-3 lead.  The Bulldogs scored on their next two drives, Barber capped his night with a 6-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter.
