DISTRICT 3-5A SUMMARY - WEEK 9
RESULTS NOVEMBER 1, 2002

MIDLAND HIGH 28, ODESSA HIGH 6
ODESSA — The Bulldogs ran for 239 yards and four touchdowns en route to a 28-6 victory against OHS in Ratliff Stadium.  Midland tailback T.J. Barber ran for 137 yards and two touchdowns in the first half alone, which put him over 1,000 yards for the season and 2,000 for his career. Barber ended the night with 175 yards on 29 carries.  Midland High, like the weather, slowly rained on the Bronchos, using short runs to get down to the OHS 6. The Bulldogs converted two fourth downs on the drive, setting up a Ryan Rowland 6-yard scoring run with 10:50 left in the half to get MHS on the scoreboard. The Bulldogs took 7:42 to drive 74 yards.  Midland High continued to keep it real on its next drive, taking 5:29 to drive 59 yards. Barber ended it properly, using two 11-yard runs, putting the Bulldogs up 14-0.  The Bronchos went into the dressing room trailing 21-0.  Midland High continued to run the ball in the second half, as Rowland scored his second touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter via a 4-yard run to give the Bulldogs a 28-0 lead.  OHS running back Trent Golden scored the Bronchos lone points late in the 4th quarter.

ABILENE COOPER 37, ABILENE HIGH 31 OT
ABILENE -- The bodies were flying and the crowd standing as Cooper running back Brandon Diles plowed into the end zone from eight yeards out to give Cooper a 37-31 win over Abilene High.  The game featured big play after big play in a back-and-forth battle that finally turned in Cooper's favor in the overtime period thanks to a defensive stand when Abilene High took the ball first in the overtime period. Abilene High faced third-and-11 from its 26-yard line when quarterback Marcus Johnson dropped back to pass and was chased from the pocket by Cooper defensive end Maximo Flores.  The senior pulled down Johnson for a 4-yard loss that knocked Abilene High out of field goal range.  Cooper took a 31-28 lead with 4:15 left in the game on a 1-yard run by quarterback Will Galusha.  Abilene High responded quickly, driving 77-yards in 16 plays to tie the game on an 18-yard field goal by Matt Adams with no time left on the clock to force overtime.

MIDLAND LEE 35, ODESSA PERMIAN 17
MIDLAND
-- Eric Guiterrez rushed for a career-high 204 yards and the Lee Rebel defense posted a second-half shutout as the Rebels defeated Odessa Permian, 35-17.  In the second half, it was the Lee defense which began to put the game away.  Leading 21-17, Lee's Jacoby Hartley came up with a big-play, intercepting an attempted pitch from Permian quarterback David Durrell and racing with the football 14 yards for a touchdown and an 11-point lead.  The first half was about moving the ball, and there was plenty of total offense.  The two teams combined for 38 points and 440 yards.
