ODESSA,
TX --
On a Friday the 13th, you could expect the
unexpected when it came to a little Mojo Magic. After a game
delay of over an hour, the black clad Panthers stepped on to the
thunderstorm ridden soggy turf of Ratliff Stadium. In its
conclusion, the Permian - Brownwood clash ended in a one-sided 45-15
victory for the Mojo.Panther
tailback Jermaine Swearington rushed for 173 yards and scored three
touchdowns on 15 carries. Brownwood’s Freddie Stoglin drew first
blood on a 50-yard run less that two minutes into the game. The
Panthers took over the momentum and game from there. Permian
answered with a 12-play, 70-yard drive that ate up 5:50 off the clock.
the drive was capped off on Jermaine Swearington's 10-yard touchdown
run. On the next possession, the Panthers set up shop at the
Brownwood 44. Five plays later, quarterback David Durell hit
Decobian Williams in the right corner of the end zone from 6 yards
out.
Permian's defense stuffed the Lion
offense, which led to another Mojo score. Four plays later,
Swearington was in the end zone again after an outstanding 62-yard run
up the right sideline. Brownwood and Permian traded punts, that
ended up pinning the Lions deep in their own end of the field.
With a fourth-and-13 at the Brownwood 3, punter Kirby Freeman bobbled
the deep snap resulting in his running out the back of the end zone
for a safety. After a free kick, it was just four plays later to
more Panther points. Running back Jon McDowell capped off the
drive on a 6-yard blast. McDowell added the two-point
conversion, sending the Panthers into the locker room at halftime with
a 31-7 lead.
Swearington would score again in the third quarter
from six yards out expanding the margin top 38-7. Brownwood
would score its only other touchdown on the following possession, from
Freeman hitting Keith Howey on a 68 yard touchdown pass. Permian
would again answer back on a McDowell 3-yard TD run in the fourth
quarter. Permian had 429 yards of total offense, while the Lions
managed 291.
