LUBBOCK,
TX -- The Permian Panthers continue to roll, after playing the spoiler
role to Lubbock Monterey's 2002 Homecoming game at Lowrey Field.
Mojo walked away with a 24-6 victory over the Plainsmen to conclude
their non-district schedule.On
Permian's first drive of the night, the Panthers traveled 72 yards on
11 plays to give Ryan Havens a chip shot field goal from 26 yards out.
The Panthers had drawn first blood from the Plainsmen. After
each team stalled on the following two possessions, Monterey heard
from the 'Thunder & Lightening'. John Thunder McDowell
busted out of a seam and rambled 67 yards to setup another Panther
score. Permian quarterback David Durell delivered a quick pass
to Lightening Swearington with 1:50 left in the first half.
Swearington wasn't through just yet, as he broke a 45-yard run to give
the Panthers a 17-0 halftime lead.
The Homecoming show, during the
intermission, was about all Monterey could be excited
about. Neither team could score in the third quarter, but
Thunder was heard from again in the fourth quarter on a 31-yard
touchdown run. Monterey would finally get on the board late in
the final period, while facing Permian's second unit defense. The Plainsmen fall to an unbelievable 0-5 record, while the Mojo
increased its season record to 4-1. Both teams will have a week
off before beginning district play. Permian will face Odessa
High, and Lubbock Monterey will face the other Panhandle team with a
less than .500 record in Amarillo High. |
