NO HOPPING FOR KANGAROOS, 49-14
Eagle running back Casey Bell racked up 149 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns in the AHS bi-district game against Weatherford.  Bell first reached the end zone to cap off the opening drive of the game from 19 yards out.  Abilene went on to a 35-0 halftime lead and cruised to the 49-14 first round victory.  Taylor Potts finished with 165 yards through the air and two touchdown passes.  The defense recovered three Kangaroo fumbles.

REBELS FALL TO DISTRICT CHAMPS
Taking a slim two point advantage in at halftime, Abilene scored touchdowns on their first four possessions of the second half to claim the 2005 District 3-5A title.  The Eagles improve to 10-0 with the 49-27 victory over Midland Lee.  AHS quarterback Taylor Potts cracked the 5,000-passing yard mark for his career with 260 yards against Lee as he connected on 20 of 27 passes with two touchdowns through the air.

ONE LEFT FOR PERFECT SEASON
Taking a 24-0 advantage in at the break, the Eagles rolled to a 40-0 blanking of Cooper in the annual cross-town game.  The win also clinched at least a share of the district title for the Eagles, who will travel to face the Lee Rebels in the finale on Friday.  Taylor Potts finished the night throwing for 298 yards and three touchdowns, and Lyle Leong hauled in four of those for 166 yards and a score.  The Eagle defense held Cooper to just 147 total yards of offense.

AND THEN THERE WAS ONE
In a Battle of Unbeatens, Abilene hosted Odessa High, which also entered the game undefeated.  The Eagles got on the scoreboard first on a 10-yd run by Taylor Potts to go in at the half leading 7-0.  In the second half, AHS erupted with 21 points to claim a 28-7 victory over the Bronchos.  Casey Bell scored two of the TDs from 25 and 23 yards out.

MISSOURI TEAM NO MATCH FOR EAGLES
The Eagles did their best to keep Rockhurst off the field, causing three first-half turnovers and limiting them to short drives on their other three possessions of the first 24 minutes, and the offense seized the momentum to take a 20-0 lead at the half and win by a final score of 33-14.

THIRD QUARTER BIG IN 24-17 VICTORY
AHS traveled to Belton for non-district game number four.  It was Belton that controlled a good portion of the game, but it was the Eagles that walked away with the victory.  Belton jumped out to a 10-3 halftime score, however Abilene answered with 14 third quarter points on Casey bell's 61-yd TD run and Lyle Leong's 30-yd reception and score that put the Eagles up 17-10.  Both teams scored a touchdown in the fourth.

T WAS A TOUGH WIN OVER BROWNWOOD
The Eagles scored on their first drive with Taylor Potts hitting Lyle Leong on a 33-yd strike.  Brownwood tied it up 7-7 before the half on an interception return.  Late in the third quarter, an AHS punt pinned Brownwood deep on its own end of the field.  Abilene's Wade Baker intercepted a Lion pass and Casey Bell would score on the next play.  Cory Rodriguez added a 28-yd field goal with 3:39 left to play.  The Lions closed the gap to 17-15, but never got the chance to touch the ball again.

LATE SCORE RUINS SHUTOUT OF BOBCATS
The Abilene offense used a mix of pass-and-run to dismantle San Angelo Central, 48-7.  The Eagles also took advantage of five Bobcat turnovers.  Lyle Leong scored two touchdowns and turned in another solid performance with 203 yards on 10 catches.  Dmidrick Harrell scored the first two touchdowns of the game and Casey Bell added another.  AHS carried its shutout into the fourth quarter before Bobcat running back Lowell Gabbert scored from five yards out with four minutes remaining in the game.

EAGLES ON TRACK WITH SEASON OPENER
After bad weather rolled into Abilene, the all-clear was given and the Eagles were ready.  AHS defeated Lubbock Monterey in the Champions Classic, 37-14.  The Eagles took an early lead on Casey Bell's 3yd TD run.  After taking a 27-7 halftime lead into the locker room, Taylor Potts connected with Jason Boone in the end zone for a 10-yard scoring strike.  Cory Rodriguez added a 27yd field goal late in the fourth quarter.  Lyle Leong caught six passes for 88 yards, and Bell had 105 yards rushing on 22 carries.
