AHS to Face Pflugerville in Semis
Abilene's performance was not like the win over
Southlake Carroll, but was good enough to claim a 20-10
victory over Lewisville Hebron in Texas Stadium.
Spens Lackey and Keithy Flye dominated the 4th quarter
and the Eagle defense held Hebron to a touchdown and
field goal. Abilene still is alive on their quest to the
Alamodome.

The Dragon Slayers Emerge

over the Eagles in the Regional state playoff game in
Texas Stadium. AHS refused to give up and
rallied in the second half to claim a 22-21 victory.
The Dragons mounted an 83-yard scoring drive in the

scamper, but it stalled at the 11. Brandon Hill booted a
28-yard field goal. On its next possession, AHS drove
down to the 5-yard line and Hill came in to kick a
22-yarder to slice the AHS deficit to 21-15. In
the fourth quarter, Spens Lackey took over the
game by carrying the ball on seven of
eight plays. His seventh carry was a 1-yard sneak into
the end zone with 6:41 left. Hill put the Eagles ahead
22-21. On their final possession, the Dragons
mishandled the snap and P.J. Butler recovered at the
Carroll 8. The Eagles simply ran out the clock.
Eagles Steal T-Bird Thunder

through three quarters in a 48-14 rocking of Weatherford

Leading 21-0, Ben Wadsworth scored on a 40-yard pass
play from Spens Lackey and then the ground attack took
over. Keithy Flye, who rushed 20 times for 143 yards,

kickoff 68 yards in seven plays with Keithy Flye scoring from the 6-yard
line with 9:44 left. The Eagles mounted a 42-yard drive capped
when Spens Lackey connected with Kortney McDow for an 11-yard scoring
pass with 1:28 left. It was enough time for Teegarden to take the
Bronchos down the field and connect with Tyler McQueen for a 10-yard
scoring pass to make it 14-7 at halftime.
Eagles Cage Cougars, 34-10
Keithy Flye rushed for 229 yards and two touchdowns as Abilene
High bounced back from last week's loss to Permian with a 34-10 win over
crosstown rival Cooper. The Eagles' first two
possessions resulted in nine-play, 74-yard drives. Flye scored the first
touchdown on a 6-yard run. After the Cougars used 14 plays to go
71 yards, Isaac Escobedo booted a 26-yard field goal. And then AHS put
its second 74-yard drive together with quarterback Spens Lackey covering
the final 3 yards. Lackey connected Kortney McDow on a 37-yard
touchdown play to put the Eagles ahead 21-3. Flye continued his
success in the third quarter, ripping off runs of 18 and 47 yards in a
95-yard drive that was capped by Flye's TD from the 6. That put
the game out of reach.

No Comeback This Time Around
Last year Spens Lackey led the
Eagle offense to a late touchdown to claim the district
title over Permian. This time it wasn't in the
cards. Abilene jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but
Permian came back to take a 17-14 lead at the half. Permian was up 20-14 midway through
the third quarter, but Lackey scored on a 6-yard run
to put the Eagles back on top. Mojo's Jamison
Berryhill scored from
9-yards out and Taylor Byrd scrambled into the end zone
on the two-point conversion and Permian protected the
28-21 score.

Eagles House Bulldogs, 45-17
Abilene's
Spens Lackey had another strong game, completing 11 of 14 passes
for 190 yards and three touchdowns.
He also ran 13 yards for another score as the Eagles knocked off
Midland High, 45-17. The Eagles turned three
second-quarter possessions into scores, and took a
commanding 38-10 halftime lead. The Eagles scored on their opening
drive of the second half on Lackey's 9-yard TD pass to Wadsworth
to cap the AHS scoring.
Edging Out The Raiders, 49-41
Abilene scored on its first three drives to
put Denton Ryan behind from the very start of the Eagles' 49-41
Homecoming victory. Spens Lackey orchestrated a 97-yard drive and
a 90-yard drive on the first two, with Lackey running one in and
throwing a 21-yard touchdown pass to Keithy Flye for the second. Lackey threw for 244-yards and three
touchdowns. The Eagles enjoyed a 28-13 halftime lead at the break.
The teams combined for five fourth quarter touchdowns,
including three by the Raiders.
Control Pays Dividends, 21-6
Abilene's
Hunter Cooke scooped up a loose fumble and returned it 33 yards
to help the Eagles defeat Tyler Lee 21-6 at Texas Stadium. Cooke's touchdown was set up when P.J. Butler and Chris Williams
drilled Luke Wagner, forcing the Red Raider quarterback to fumble. The Raiders drew first blood, taking the opening kickoff 61 yards and
scoring when Joseph Cleaver booted a 36-yard field goal. AHS
scored on its second possession. Quarterback Spens
Lackey darted in from the 3, capping a 12-play, 72-yard
drive. The Eagles clung to a 7-3 lead at the half.
In the second half, Abilene score two more times to
claim the victory.
Eagles Maintain Skeeters
Abilene surprised Mesquite on the third play from
scrimmage. Spens Lackey connected with Kortney McDow on
a screen pass and McDow scampered 83-yard to paydirt. It
would be one of two scores for the Eagles as they
claimed a 13-10 victory. AHS used its best drive of the
game in the second quarter to score again. Chris
Williams capped off the drive on a 1-yard dive.
The Skeeters would score a touchdown and field goal to
narrow the gap, but the AHS defense held on for the
victory.
Eagles Hit-And-Run With Lightning
The Eagles and Plainsmen were involved in a game at
Lowrey Field that was called after the first half due to
bad weather. Because Abilene led 17-0, the Eagles were
declared the winner. AHS had the ball four times
in the first half. They scored on three of those
possessions, on 7-yard and 3-yard runs by Flye and on a
28-yard field goal by Brandon Hill. The Plainsmen
were able to gain good yardage through the air, but the
AHS defense was dominate against the run and limited
Monterey to seven yards rushing.
AHS Knocks Off Austin Westlake
Abilene High scored on its first two possessions of the
third quarter and its interior lines took care of
business Saturday in a 31-10 win in Shotwell Stadium.
The Eagles got on the board first when Brandon Hill
booted a 40-yard field goal with 7:02 left in the first
quarter. Westlake's Justin Tucker tied the game with a
23-yard field goal with 4:51 left until halftime.
Spens Lackey directed a potent Eagle attack that netted
419 total yards. Lackey was 17-of-25 passing for 216
yards and rushed 10 times for 85 yards. Keithy Flye
rushed 19 times for 94 yards. The Eagles scored on
four of five second-half possessions while their defense
continued to stifle the Chaparrals. Abilene's
defense virtually pitched a shutout as both Westlake
scores came off special-team miscues.
Eagles Scrimmage Copperas Cove
Abilene High scored on the last play of the
live scrimmage to outscore Copperas Cove 6-0 at Bulldawg
Stadium. One play before Abilene scored its
touchdown on a 9-yard run around left end on second
effort by the running back, the Abilene quarterback
threw incomplete on third and 5 from the Cove 18. Cove
was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, giving the
Eagles first-and-goal from the 9. The touchdown capped
an 11-play, 83-yard drive.

EAGLE OFFENSES
BATTLE... DESOTO WINS
Up 14-13 at the half, AHS converted a
DeSoto fumble into a 21-13 lead. Spens Lackey’s 30-yard option run set up
Chris Williams’ 3-yard scoring run, giving AHS its eight-point lead
only 2:41 into the third quarter. DeSoto immediately responded with
two touchdown runs by Gray in only 1:54. DeSoto had rallied
for a 26-21 lead with 3:30 left in the third quarter. A Lackey 5-yard touchdown run
equaled a 27-26 lead before the third
quarter ended. AHS limited DeSoto to five yards on its next three downs
and appeared one defensive stop away from
securing the win. On fourth-and-5, Gray ran to his right, but
met interference. The shifty junior made his way toward the sideline and, once he got there, he broke into a
dead sprint to score the final points for DeSoto.
