The famous culture and
excitement of West Texas high school football extends beyond the high
school stadiums to the youth football fields this season, thanks to the
Alltel Wireless “Yards 4 Youth Football” program.
Beginning
Friday, October 12, 2007, Alltel Wireless, America’s largest network,
providing coverage across the nation, will donate one dollar for every
offensive yard gained by the six Little Southwest Conference (LSC) teams
to area youth football organizations. Abilene High and Abilene Cooper
will benefit Big Country Youth Football through the Abilene Youth Sports
Authority, Odessa High and Odessa Permian will represent the Central
Permian Basin Youth Athletic Association and Midland High and Midland
Lee will participate on behalf of the Greater Midland Football League.
In addition, the program
will award an Alltel Wireless “Yards 4 Youth Football Team of the Week”
and “Player of the Week” to the LSC team and player, respectively, who
accumulate the most yards each week. As part of this recognition,
Alltel will make weekly $500 contributions in the name of the honored
teams and players to their designated youth football organizations.
“It’s the younger players
who represent the future of high school football in West Texas,” said
Brian Sanderson, vice president of retail services for Alltel Wireless.
“With our ‘Yards 4 Youth Football’ program, we’ve created a unique way
to team with the six high schools in the heralded Little Southwest
Conference to benefit a great cause and the future of legendary West
Texas football.”
“We’re very excited to
team with Alltel this season for ‘Yards 4 Youth Football’,” said Davis
Corley, Midland Independent School District athletic director. “Many of
our own high school athletes here in West Texas built their talent,
character and leadership skills in these youth football organizations,
and we’re thrilled that Alltel has provided such a creative opportunity
for our football programs to give back to these kids.”
Alltel Wireless “Yards 4
Youth Football” will kick off with the games played on October 12, 2007
and will run throughout the five-week LSC conference schedule,
concluding with the games played on November 9, 2007. Each week, Alltel
will donate one dollar per yard gained by each LSC team with a maximum
weekly donation of $500 per team, per week. At the conclusion of the
season, Alltel will present each of the three West Texas youth football
organizations a check totaling the sum of their particular season-long
donations, with a minimum total contribution of $4,000 per
organization. Additionally, as part of the ceremony’s festivities,
Alltel will make a special season-ending announcement as well as honor
the Alltel Wireless “Yards 4 Youth Football Team of the Year” and
“Player of Year.”
